Hoddom
& Kinmount Estates consist
of a mixture
of agriculture and forestry of approximately 11,000 acres
(4,450 ha.) situated in Dumfries and Galloway near to the
Scottish / English border.
The
Forestry department at Hitchell Sawmill consists of approximately
1700 acres (690 ha.) of mixed conifer broad leafed trees,
1000 acres (405 ha.) of commercial conifer plantations and
700 acres (283ha.) of broad leafs, mainly oak, beach and ash.
The
Forestry team consists of 5 full time employees and various
self employed contractors as required. The full time employees
are: 1 professional head forester, 2 full time sawmillers,
1 full time fencer, 1 tractor/digger operator
All
are highly skilled and trained to a high standard of workmanship
in their respective disciplines. All work carried out is done
under the strict control of Forest Enterprise through their
Felling Licence and Woodland Grant Schemes.
